Man Charged with Murder in Pickering Casino Security Guard Shooting

Authorities have announced a significant development in the investigation into the death of Michael Ferdinand, a security guard at the Pickering Casino Resort. Ferdinand was fatally shot on the morning of October 9, 2023, succumbing to his injuries after being transported to a local hospital.

Following an extensive investigation that spanned multiple jurisdictions, police apprehended a 17-year-old male suspect in Saskatoon earlier this month. This individual has now been formally charged with second-degree murder. He was taken into custody by Durham Regional Police on Wednesday and is believed to have connections to the Jane and Finch area of Toronto, although he was reported to be without a fixed address.

Previously, law enforcement had issued a Canada-wide warrant for the arrest of a 17-year-old, whose identity was publicly released by police in late 2023. However, his name and image were later removed from public records due to his age at the time of the incident.
