Every May, the Legislative Assembly of Ontario (Queen’s Park) in Canada hosts various events to celebrate 'Asian Heritage Month.' Around this time, the Korean-Canadian community often reflects on the dedication of early Canadian missionaries in Korea, a representative figure being Dr. Sherwood Hall (1893–1991). Born in Seoul to Canadian medical missionaries, he is well known for leading the establishment of Korea's first tuberculosis sanatorium and the distribution of Korea's first Christmas seals during the Japanese colonial period.

During the Korean War, the 25th Canadian Infantry Brigade was deployed to the fierce front lines during 'Operation Piledriver,' a United Nations counteroffensive, participating in the northward advance around the 38th parallel.

May 28, 2020

During the COVID-19 pandemic when the world was experiencing a global shortage of masks, the South Korean government expressed its gratitude by delivering KF94 masks to Canadian veterans of the Korean War. Veterans across Canada expressed deep emotion, stating, "Korea has not forgotten us."

In Toronto, a series of academic and community forums were held to look at the history and future of Korean immigration. In particular, the rapid growth of Toronto's Korean community following Canada's introduction of the Point System immigration policy in 1967 was prominently discussed.

May 31, 2002

On this day, the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan officially opened. During the month-long tournament, Korean expats and local citizens in red t-shirts took to the streets of Toronto's Koreatown (around Bloor Street) to cheer, and Canadian media took note of this passionate yet orderly cheering culture.
